And although this seems to be a free way to do it, it does not come without a cost. There is the cost of getting the knowledge such as when payments have to be made in order to go online. Irrespective of whether you go online with micro-payments such as when you go to a cybercafé for a few minutes or if you have a dedicated line to the internet service provider in your house, the cost of getting that knowledge must be accounted for and this negates the wrongly held idea that making your own ringtone is free.

There are software that enable one to convert music files into ringtones, some of which are free to download. But irrespective of how they are obtained, there is the cost associated with obtaining the software.

Most of the equipment that you use in the process of making your own ringtones are electronic in nature. This means that they require electricity in order to operate. Electricity is not free; it has to be paid for. Each of this equipment also undergoes wear and tear in the process of being used. This is something that many people over look when costing a process or a product, but at the end of the day, you may have to replace the device because the process has made it no more usable.

At the end of it all, we now know that making your own ringtones is not entirely free.
